How Is the DHI Technique Applied?

Hair loss is a common aesthetic concern affecting both men and women.
Genetic factors, hormonal changes, stress, aging, and certain health
conditions can cause hair to gradually thin or fall out.

One of the permanent solutions for hair loss is hair transplantation.
Thanks to advancements in technology, modern hair transplant procedures
can now provide more natural and comfortable results.
One of these modern methods is the DHI technique.

The DHI technique allows hair follicles to be implanted directly using a special pen device.

What Is the DHI Technique?

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is a modern hair transplant technique
in which hair follicles are implanted directly into the scalp using a special
implantation pen. In this method, hair follicles are extracted from the donor
area and placed directly into the areas with thinning or hair loss.

One of the most important characteristics of the DHI technique is that
the channel creation and implantation processes can be performed
simultaneously. This allows hair follicles to be transplanted quickly
and may reduce the risk of follicle damage.

How Is the DHI Technique Applied?

The DHI hair transplant procedure generally consists of several stages.
Each step plays an important role in achieving natural and successful results.

1. Examination and Planning

In the first stage, the patient’s hair loss pattern, hair density,
and donor area are evaluated by a specialist doctor.
The hairline is then designed according to the patient’s facial structure.

2. Extraction of Hair Follicles from the Donor Area

Hair follicles are usually extracted from the back of the head.
Hair in this area is genetically more resistant to hair loss.

Similar to the FUE method, hair follicles are extracted one by one.
However, in the DHI method, these follicles are placed directly
into a special implantation pen before transplantation.

3. Implantation of Hair Follicles

The collected hair follicles are implanted directly into the scalp
using a special pen device.
This tool allows the surgeon to control the angle,
direction, and depth of the hair follicles.

This step is extremely important for achieving
a natural-looking hair appearance.

Advantages of the DHI Technique

The DHI hair transplant method offers several advantages,
which has made it increasingly popular in recent years.

  • Allows denser hair transplantation
  • Better control over hair angle and direction
  • Suitable for transplanting between existing hair
  • Helps create a natural hairline
  • May provide a faster healing process

Who Is Suitable for the DHI Technique?

The DHI hair transplant method may be suitable for individuals who:

  • Have thinning hair
  • Experience hair loss
  • Have sufficient hair density in the donor area
  • Are in generally good health

However, hair transplantation should always be planned individually.
Therefore, patients should undergo a professional medical evaluation
before deciding on the procedure.

Recovery Process After DHI Hair Transplant

After the DHI hair transplant procedure, the healing process begins.
In the first few days, mild redness and scabbing may appear
in the transplanted area. This is normal and typically
subsides within a short time.

During the first 7–10 days, it is important to protect
the scalp and follow the care instructions recommended
by the doctor.

Some patients may experience a temporary condition
called shock hair loss.
During this stage, transplanted hair strands may fall out,
but the hair follicles remain under the skin.

New hair growth usually begins after about 3 months.
The final results of the hair transplant procedure
are typically visible between 9 and 12 months.
